Our Workshops

Come and spend time in the kitchen with the Gumbooted Chef, exploring our food heritage. Take advantage of these opportunities to work alongside a professional chef as he passes on his experience in a fun and supportive environment. Enjoy spending time on the picturesque Mornington Peninsula as you chop, peel, bake and create wholesome food, rich in flavour. These workshops are intended to give you insider tips on how to work with quality ingredients so that you can put them into practice in your own kitchen. Roll up your sleeves, don your wellies and get your hands dirty with this interactive series.

Wood fired ovens have been an integral part of cooking for centuries from the baking of breads to the preparation of meats. Let us introduce you to this fantastic flavour rich method of cooking and help you on your way to building your own oven. This workshop is fully interactive at every stage, construction to cooking. 

Beginning at 9.00am with a warm welcome from the Gum booted chef, Jason Goldingay and an introduction to the history, styles and mechanics of wood fired ovens from Terry Leach. Next theory is put into practise with a hands on exploration of different oven styles, construction techniques and building materials.

After  a well deserved break for refreshments and wood fired goodies. The afternoon will be spent with the gum booted chef preparing and cooking a traditional wood fired menu, bringing it to life with explosion of flavour. Now sit down to enjoy the fruits of your labour.

You will receive an info pack covering all workshop topics. 

The day will end around 4pm with a question and answer session over a quiet ale or glass of wine.
